Katie and I were driving home last Saturday when she realized that she didn't know where her wallet was. We had stopped by a burrito place called Moe's Southwest grill and got lunch to go. In a panic we were wondering how we could call the store to check - we were still on the road and were a ways from the store at this point. You can always call 411 but the toll charges for that can be a pain. I remembered that Google has a free 411 service but had never needed to try it out. This sounded like a perfect opportunity. Here's the number:
1-800-GOOG411
An automated voice comes on and gives you instructions to say what you're looking for and the city and state to search in. Even though we gave a slightly incorrect name of the store, it found it. Actually, it gives a list of places that are close matches and asks you to let it know which one, if any of them, is the one your looking for. Once you make your selection, it connects you automatically! Cool - and completely free. I have know idea what Google's method for making money off this service is but kudos to them for providing it.
You can learn more about this here, cheesy video and all.

Did you get her wallet back??
Ahh, yes.. I forgot to resolve that question. It was actually in the car the whole time. It had slipped under the passenger seat somehow - far enough back that she couldn't see or feel it. Big relief!!
thanks for giving us the 411 on this.
I had heard about this a few months ago from another Alaskan friend Kyndra Lund. She said that she uses it all the time. That is so nice that it is free. ALSO great that you have the wallet and it wasn't actually lost!
