Swim Team 2012

Derek

We couldn't be more proud of our swim team kids this year.  Derek especially took to the water and practiced with all his might. He practiced hard all season to make it the length of the pool without any assistance.  On his very last heat of the season, he made his goal of getting a red, white and blue ribbon which is a "Heat Ribbon Winner!"  AND he did it without any help.  He was so excited and we were so proud of him for working hard to accomplish a goal!

Mason

This boy is turning into a young man!  For all of the complaining about not wanting to do swim team this year, he really stepped up to the plate and showed us his talents.  Mason enjoys time with his buddies at the swim meets which makes it all the more fun!

Sadie

Sadie is the strong silent swimmer.  She is consistent every week and works hard at improving her time.  Her strokes are beautiful and as much as she enjoys swimming I know she will go far!

Summer Fun

It's been a busy July for the kids - but their energy is boundless is seems. Right after getting back from "Grandma camp" in Ohio, they both started back into swimming lessons. Mason had graduated up to the first level where they actually teach strokes. Last year he was in the class where they do mostly games in the shallow side of the pool. He absolutely loves the water and it is all the instructor could do to keep him from taking off. The instructor would say something like "ok, now we are going to take turns swimming from this wall to here using the crawl stroke" and before he could finish the sentence, Mason would be off if a flurry of arms, legs and water. Sadie was in the next class up and enjoyed practicing some new strokes. Like Mason, she would live in the water if given the choice. When we go to the pool we have to plan about 3 hours minimum in the water or she feels like she hasn't had enough.

After a couple of weeks swimming ended and they both enrolled in a soccer camp at the local college. This was their first experience playing soccer in an organized way and they both really loved it. There are still a few finer points of the game to learn yet (Mason tends to stand so far in the goal when playing goalie that the other team would score even if he got it) but those will come!

Katie is enjoying the summer but would enjoy it much more if she wasn't so preganant! But not much time left on that now - Mom arrives Aug 1 to help out and we are so excited - especially the kids.

Swimming at Sandy Point

Last week Katie and the kids decided to make a trip up to Annapolis MD. The kids were in the mood for a little fun in the sun and Katie wanted to re-visit the Dutch Amish Market. There is this state park that has a nice little beach and the kids took full advantage of it. The water was a little grimy but they didn't care. They loved playing with the waves and pushing cars through the sand.

Swim Class

This is a bit behind the times but better late than never as they say! At the end of June the temperature was starting to heat up. We had spent quite a bit of time during the winter going to indoor pools and letting the kids play around, and Sadie was starting to show an aptitude in the water. So what better way to beat the heat then by swimming! We decided to enroll them in some swimming lessons. Luckily, a brand new pool was built pratically across the street and we were able to get them into back to back lessons and in the same classes as some friends! They had a blast and are fast becoming little fish.
