Mrs. Emma Cook

My Grandma passed away this past Christmas.

She had just turned 96 years old. She and my grandpa moved up to Alaska in the 1930's because of job opportunities. They ended up staying in Alaska because the passage on the ship was so difficult, they didn't want to experience that again with a return trip. They built their life and raised their family in Fairbanks, AK where my roots run deep. Her life held many amazing accomplishments, one of which was being a example to me of how to keep in touch with family. Grandma always sent cards for Christmas, birthdays and anniversaries, always filled with cash to make our days brighter. She never missed a single event, no matter where we lived. I was able to go home to Alaska to attend her funeral. The trip was one filled with mixed emotions as most of my extended family was there. Although Grandma wasn't there, her spirit lived on in all of us reconnecting and I am grateful to her for giving us all that opportunity to cherish her life and make some of her talents our own. Thank you Grandma.
