Chicago, baby!

Chris and I wanted to get away this holiday and weren't quite sure where we wanted to go. Finally, we decided to go to Chicago. The kids stayed at hotel G&G Johns while we were away and needless to say, we didn't need to come back! Thanks Mom & Dad!

Our hotel was conveniently located next to 3 of the 5 places we were planning to visit. I just have to give a plug for this hotel. We stayed at the Grant Park Best Western. For one it was in a great location, clean and friendly. We received gift cards when we arrived which had $60 for us to spend on breakfast and other snacks. There was valet parking and internet in the rooms. Transportation was available straight to the heart of downtown and it was just fabulous.

Our first stop on Day 1 was the planetarium where we saw a nice presentation on the scientific theory of where the star of Christ came from. We learned about the sun and other scientific things. When we came out of the planetarium, Chris took some nice night shots of the city. He has a nice panoramic you can see. Oh, I took this wonderful picture:)

Our first stop the next morning was to the Shedd aquarium. We were glad we went early, because that place sure does get crowded! We enjoyed a 4D show about the ocean and had water squirted in our faces along with things poking us in the back and spraying our legs. We saw fun creatures like this frog and dragon see horse. Our favorites were the Aligator Snapping turtle and the Australian Lung Fish that has been at the aquarium since 1933. Yah, you do the math.

Field Museum was next on our list for Day 2. Here we learned about plants and animals and were shrunk to the size of an inch in order to see everything that is in the soil. I can't say this was my favorite thing, but it was interesting to see how many critters are in one tablespoon of soil.

That evening we rode to the top of the Sears Tower and took in the night view. It was beautiful as you would expect.

Our last day was a day for shopping (all 2 hours!) We went to the Mac store, Crate and Barrel and walked to the park to see the Bean. In the afternoon we went to the Museum of Science and Technology. If I had more time and wasn't so tired, I would have liked to spend more time here. If you go with your kids, plan on going all day to this museum. It had a lot of great exhibits.

Here's a capsule for a hot air balloon that set the record for altitude
This is a fantastic train set with replicas of Seattle and Chicago.

Thanks Chicago. We enjoyed our visit and will return...sometime!

Hoe nice. We were in Indiana (with the kids) for the break. It was really fun to visit Stan's brother Gary, and nice that his other brother Clark came out also. We went through some fun cities on the way there and back (we drove of course). Nice to see that their are friends out there getting some alone time - with their spouses...I get alone time without my spouse usually!
